Juvenal Correa-Salas

Started his Piano studies in Venezuela with Harriet Serr and Marisa Romero and his organ studies with Jose Peñin Cachon and Pablo Castellanos. After graduating from Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico Juvenal Correa-Salas continued with his studies at the Indiana University School of Music. In this University he studied piano with Michel Block and Emile Naoumoff for Performance Diploma and Masters in Piano respectively. At the same School Mr. Correa-Salas studied harpsichord with Elizabeth Wright, organ at the studio of Prof. Larry Smith and orchestra conducting with Thomas Baldner and Imre Pallo.

Among his variety of musical activities Mr. Correa-Salas has actively participated in master classes and summer festivals in Europe, South and North America not only in piano but also in harpsichord and organ. Some of this events along with prominent musicians such as Blanca Uribe, Menahem Presler, Lee Luvisi, Jose Fegali, Gyorgy Sebok, Sir Nicolas Jackson, Abrahm Abreu, Janos Starker, Samuel Baron, Kim Walker, Stanley Ritchi among others.

As a soloist as well as in chamber music, playing piano, harpsichord and organ Juvenal Correa-Salas has performed in USA, Venezuela, Chile, Spain, Italy, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Puerto Rico. From 1998, he was Assistant Instructor at Indiana University School of Music and Assistant Pianist at the Opera at the same University. Mr. Correa-Salas was also invited to work as a pianist with Janos Starker, Franco Gulli, Yuval Yaron, Kim Walker, Virginia Zeanni, James King, Giorgio Tozzi at their teaching studios in Indiana University.

As a composer he has been commissioned to write a work for the Indiana University Ballet, as well as for Union Church of San Juan and for the Tribute Concert that Indiana University offered to the Princess Irene of Greece in her visit in 1999.

He has been invited as a lecturer and to give master classes at Indiana University, Universidad Catolica de Chile, Universidad de Valparaiso (Chile), and Fundación Vicente Emilio Sojo. (Venezuela)

Mr. Correa-Salas is currently living in Puerto Rico where, for the season until 2003, will dedicate his time to work at the Art Centre for Children “Centro Amati” (San Juan) and fulfill his concert agenda and his research projects.
